History:
Ravenswood Allotment Society was created in 2011, to re-use derelict land in Risca which coincidentally was originally part of a much larger allotment site. In 2022, the name was changed to Ravenswood Allotment Association to better reflect the physical presence and make-up of the organisation.

The association is a member of the Caerphilly East Allotment Federation which was set up in 2015 to replace the Islwyn Allotment Federation.
CEAF manages the 30 allotments under its jurisdiction on behalf of Caerphilly County Borough Council.
Long, long ago. Lime Kiln signal box and the original, large allotment site before the Doctors' surgery and Ravenswood Court houses were built.

A view of the allotment site showing the Albert Hotel , Action filling station & Moscow Motors!
So what was the allotment site called back then?

May 2011. The beginning. Plot 8 being dug over in readiness for planting. Here's the Argus article:

July 2011. 2 months later, and plot 8 is starting to show the results of Martyn's gardening skills.

August 2012. The first thing you see is derelict plot 14 on the left and thriving plot 13 (split in two) next to it.

August 2012. Some lovely sweet peas in flower, intertwined with the runner beans on plot 12.

May 2013. Beansticks and peasticks are all in place and the growing season is in full swing.

July 2013. The lovely homes which Martyn had made for the mason bees are being occupied.

December 2013. Our new water feature! The river Ebbw couldn't cope with the swollen stream.

December 2013. Another view of the water feature.

February 2014. The fence blew over, so several of us took it apart and concreted in new posts.

February 2014. The next day, once the concrete had gone off, the fence was rebuilt. Almost done!

January 2016. The view from the entrance gate. The Fire Brigade are busy pumping the doctors' car park!

January 2016. View from the Crescent Road end of the allotments; Ricky's & Martyn's plots under water.

January 2016. The very full fridge/brook alongside Crescent road. Why doesn't it flow into the river?

January 2016. That's why! The brook's exit into the fast flowing Ebbw is well under the water level.
